Cherry Flavored Life

Freshly picked Sweet Cherries from my own tree

Life is just a bowl of cherries! An interesting saying.

Today was a good day. It was finally sunny here, and warm. I wore shorts for the first time in many months. I ran errands. I deposited money. I picked 1.5 pounds of sweet cherries from my own cherry tree, with more on the tree that are ripening. This year I got to them before the birds, the deer and the squirrels did. Hurrah! Hurrah!

They taste very sweet and are filled with sunshine and sweet rainwater.

Some days are not a "just a bowl of cherries". One of my favorite artists, Mary Engelbreit, said it nicely in her work below. I have a copy of this very poster in my home. Helps me to laugh when I need it.

Now every time I see a "bowl of cherries" I think of this illustration. Cracks me up, it's so cute and colorful.

I need more cute and colorful things in my life.

And more sweet, fresh, sunshine cherries.

Happy Spring everyone!

I'm also a fan of Mary Engelbreit, I love her art style. Your cherries look delicious, how lucky for you to beat the cherry-lovin' critters! Happy Spring . . . soon to be Summer . . . which means spring was pretty darn short up here in the mountains!

Good harvest of cherries, great photo. They look plump and yummy, and so much tastier when grown in your own orchard.

Happy Springtime to you, finally getting one took awhile.

Oh Jen, I'm so glad you're finally getting some lovely weather. Boy, do I know how much endlessly gray, wet and cold can drag a person down!
I can't believe you've got ripe cherries already! Wow, they look amazing. I do love cherries.
Cute poster - I've seen a lot of ME's work, but not that one. Made me smile, too. :-)
So... What yummy thing are you going to bake HW Bob with all those lovely red orbs of perfection? :-)

Hi Janice,
I think our Spring lasted exactly 2 days this year. Bah! It's supposed to get pretty hot here next week.

Hi Bob,
The cherries are very tasty this year. I think I will go munch on a few right now!

Hi Danni,
Well, it hasn't rained here in a few days. We don't get as much wet and grey weather as you do up there, but this year winter lasted until June! We went from cold straight into hot without ever having a real Spring.

I doubt these sweet cherries (Van and Bing) will last long enough to make it into a baked good, as I have been eating them steadily from the bowl, but if I did bake something with cherries, my first choice would be a pie. I love cherry pie. I would use a combination of sweet and tart cherries, which means I'd need to wait for my Montmorency sour cherries to ripen. They take longer than the sweet ones. And even then, if I did make a pie, I am not sure I'd be able to actually share it, I love it so much. Ha!
