Spring Blossoms

Braeburn Apple Blossoms

Even though today was cold and rainy here in the mountains, Spring has definitely sprung around here. Earlier this week we had high temperatures in the 80's. It was downright hot! I wore shorts & sandals (and had to shave my legs)!

Anyway, since I haven't posted anything here in awhile, I thought I'd get back into the blogging swing of things by showing you some pretty Spring blossoms.

The photo above is a close up shot of my Braeburn apple tree blossoms. The tree is covered in delicate pink blossoms this year. More than I have seen in years past. I love their pink color. This tree is now 10 years old. Some years it produces an abundance of crisp and tart apples. Other years, not so much.

This next photo is not actually of blossoms, but if you look closely you can see some tiny plums on this Santa Rosa plum tree. It blossomed a few weeks ago, and some of the blossoms and fruit survived the freakish late snow storm we had recently.

Santa Rosa Plum Tree ~ see the tiny green plums?

Next up is my newest Bartlett pear tree. It is so new that it has not produced any fruit yet. My old Bartlett pear died a few years ago. Probably due to gophers attacking its roots (even though I installed a wire gopher basket) or perhaps due to root rot. I am not sure. I purchased and planted this new little Bartlett 2 or 3 winters ago. I usually buy bare root fruit trees. They are easier to handle, cost less and seem to grow faster and stronger when transplanted.

Young Bartlett Pear Tree ~ lotsa blooms, no fruit yet

The photo below is not fruit tree blossoms or even native ornamental flowers. This is a pretty bouquet that graced our Greek Orthodox Easter dinner table last Sunday evening. Bob gave me this bright bouquet of flowers and it added just the right splash of color to go with our traditional bright red Greek Easter eggs.

I will post about both of our Easter celebrations another day. I am so behind on my posting!

Happy Spring everyone! Enjoy the warming weather.

Springtime is definitely showing off everywhere. I love this time of year with the exception of the heavy layer of yellow oak pollen on everything, the sneezing, and watery eyes.

It appears from the plentiful tree blossoms that you will have a very bountiful fruit harvest this year. I'll be ready to make more room in the freezer.

My own alien apple tree, the one that decided to take up residence in the drainage gully, is totally loaded up with blossoms too. I am hoping to make plenty of apple pies.

The tiny plums on your Santa Rosa are so cute. Great photos, each and every one, Greek Easter was a lot of fun, glad you liked the flowers.♥

What pretty pictures! Your apple tree is so much farther along than mine are...I'm fearful I may have done a real hatchet job on my babies when I pruned them this year. We'll see if I get *any* apples this year at all. Tiny plums...awwwww. It's so wonderful watching everything "green up" outside the windows, isn't it? Spring is definitely my favorite season now.
Do you think your pear tree will fruit this year?

Hi Bob,
Yes, there is LOTS of yellow powdery pollen all over my car, patio table and everywhere! It makes my eyes water and my nose sneeze!

Hopefully my trees will produce abundant fruit, then the trouble will be to keep the deer, squirrels and birds (not to mention my neighbor's horses!) from eating it before I can harvest it.

Hi Danni,
Thank you for the photo praise. I liked that first one of the apple tree the best. I love the pink blossoms. My photos are not as "artsy" and creative as yours are though. I usually prune all my fruit trees each winter, but this year I never got around to it, so I am not sure what kind of harvest I will have. My first Bartlett pear fruited in it's second year, so yes, I am hoping that this new one will give me some edible fruit this year. Last year it only had a few tiny pears that dropped off soon after appearing. At least I know it is self fertile.

Happy Spring to you, too Farmer Jen!
Our apple trees are blooming like crazy, too. Though I'm not sure what species it is. They were planted by the previous owners of our house.

Now I'm just praying that we don't get a freak May snow storm that ends our dreams of apples this summer.

Hi Lisa,
Yes, we are supposed to have a rain storm this weekend. Who knows what it will do to my fruit trees and garden veggies? Mother Nature is always throwing surprises our way.

Great photos, I too love the dark pink in the apple blossoms. And I do see the cute little Santa Rosa plums . . . hmmmmm, plum jam anyone?

but hey! I didn't know we're in for a rain storm this weekend. We need the water, but I'm really ready for warmer weather, at the same time.

Again, good pictures. Ain't spring grand!

Hi CA Grammy,
Thanks for the photo praise.

Maybe we won't get an actual rainstorm but there is a 50% chance of rain predicted for Saturday, at least for my area here at 3000ft elevation.

I love plum jam!

Hi Roula,
Happy May Day to you too. Does it look like Springtime where you are yet? I hope so.
